We bought an upgrade Eberspacher DW5 which was installed this winter by our boatyard. The kit included a S3 and Easy Start Controler. It is meant to run with one radiator and 2 matrix heaters each with local Tstats. It used to be the case that swithing on the DW5 brought the matrix heaters on after a short interval. Now the matrix blowers are either on all the time or have to be operated manually at the T stat. On checking the wireing it seems the fans are directly connected to the live feed and therefore not reliant on the controller, I cant see any provision for connecting the controller to the fans of the matrix heaters in the documentation- how should it have been done? It actually works fine apart from having to switch the fans on and off manually. The controller diagnostics say the heater is OK but on the controller it gives 4 error messages, 1 Int sensor defective 2, no heater 3, Mismatch and 4 invalid system configeration . These can't be right as the heater is there and working perfectly. As far as I can see there is no connection to the matrix fans other than the live feed. How should the matrix fans have been connected? No room temp is shown on the display - I dont think that matters as the matrix fans have T stats . The upgrade is new so the chances of an temp sensor defect seem small. If I understand correctly the S3 aims to keep the circulating water at 75 degrees and does this at the heater so the room temp not being displayed does not seem to be major problem. But is there any danger that without the internal sensor in the Easy start it could all over heat? The boatyard who installed it say it is all working as it should do. If so why the error messages? Your advice would be much appreciated. Regards Alan & Linda Fisher

Hi, thank you for getting in touch. You have a number of different questions there. To allow switching of matrix heater fans via the heater your installer will have required to fit a relay as shown in the attachment to follow. This would allow the same functionality as you had with your old heater ( the old heater must have had a similar relay in the prior wiring also for this functionality) Blower fans would only work when heater is switched on and coolant above approx 60 degree C. The external matrix stats would still be required to control room temp Easystart Pro, similar ALL Eberspacher controllers are not intended to control ambient room/cabin temperature via switching off/on of the heater. Room temp sensors are not recommended in the scenario of ES Pro controlling of water heaters. You are correct, the heater coolant temp sensor is designed to maintain constant coolant temp approx 75-80 degrees. It does perhaps sound like the initial set up of the ES PRO needs repeating
