My eberspacher turns on but will not keep running after the 2nd try to run. I’ve replaced the in line filter and the pump is definitely working and is spitting out diesel on inspection. I’ve yet to check by the igniter and the filter by it. What do you think is the problem please?

Hi, thank you for your question. If you have the Eberspacher Espar Airtronic D2 and a digital controller, you should be able to retrieve specific fault codes that could highlight your exact issue. Typically 'no start' faults like this are caused by either, fuel supply (check fuel is reaching the heater unit), voltage (check power at the heater unit is sufficient, if possible monitor under load), air (check combustion air intake and exhaust pipe are not blocked or restricted). If you can please confirm the heater version and controller we will be able to offer more detailed troubleshooting advice. If you have an Easy Start Select, see the document for entering the workshop menu and retrieving fault codes - https://www.butlertechnik.com/downloads/cms/7724/eberspacher-espar-easy-start-select-workshop-menu-manual.pdf For a full list of Eberspacher D2 Airtronic fault codes please see link - https://www.butlertechnik.com/downloads/cms/eberspacher-espar-airtronic-d2-fault-codes-troubleshooting-manual.pdf I hope this helps.

Thank you for your expedient response. I have an Eberspacher Airtronic D2 with an 801 digital controller. After rechecking all the fault codes I noticed one was missing from prior inspection a week ago, so I thought I’d try and erase all fault codes and wahlah…they disappeared and the diesel heater started up and kept running for 6 hours no problem ? I’m wondering now about what some people have said. 1. That it shouldn’t be on for more than 1 hour!?! 2. That it needed a burn off procedure done and if so, how is this done and how often? Also I’m wanting to do a service and wondering if you sell service kits, what’s in them and the price please? There was no flange seal used when they installed it and it was installed on top of the felt/carpet used to line the lockers. Is this ok or is it a possible fire hazard? There was also no intake guard in it and I’m wondering of the cost? Can you recommend a company in Australia that I could order parts through if you can’t. Kind regards, Sonja

Hi, Thank you for your reply. I am glad to learn clearing the fault codes on the heater allowed the heater to run. Regarding your two main questions 1. The 801 controller has different runtime settings that can be accessed via the workshop menu, 1 hour, 4 hours, 10 hours or continuous. We only ever supplied the version that was preset to run indefinitely but this setting can be changed. See page 10 https://www.butlertechnik.com/downloads/cms/7592/eberspacher-espar-801-contoller-installation-manual.pdf 2. How to remove carbon from a diesel heater without removing it? Or a 'burn-off procedure' could be referring to running the heater up and allowing it to run on full power for approximately 30 mins. This allows the heater chamber and burner to get hot enough to help clean / burn off carbon build up that has accumulated as a result of long periods of heating in low power modes. There is not a setting to activate to do this, just opening all the doors and windows and setting the heater to a high temp setting so the temperature cannot be achieved. We do sell service kits yes, please see the link to the Eberspacher Airtronic D2 Service kit - https://www.butlertechnik.com/item/Eberspacher/D2-Airtronic-heater-service-kit-292199015407/5CD If your burner is warped, cracked and/or full of carbon you may need to replace this, see link - https://www.butlertechnik.com/item/Eberspacher/Airtronic-D2-Burner-Tube-with-Burner-Gasket-252069100100/6VM If you decide to purchase a replacement burner, you will only need a fuel pump filter and motor gasket to complete the service kit - Eberspacher heater fuel pump - https://www.butlertechnik.com/item/Eberspacher/fuel-pump-integrated-filter-201312000006/6T8 Eberspacher Airtronic D2 motor gasket -https://www.butlertechnik.com/item/Eberspacher/Airtronic-D2-Motor-Gasket-252069010003/6VD For mounting the heater, you should consider installing a floor mounting plate, installing directly onto a carpet is not recommended, your installation would be safer and improved using a through floor plate - See link: https://www.butlertechnik.com/eberspacher-webasto-installation-accessories/mounting-accessories I hope all this helps, Kind regards, Matt Varlow
